A
visit
to Kenya
You will be invited
for 10 days by the JRS Eastern
Africa to visit Nairobi and Kakuma
Refugee camp, where almost 90,000
refugees live, the majority form Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia. The
exact dates of the trip can be negotiated by the winner,
but it must take place before 1st October 2006.
The winner will have a chance to meet refugees,
representatives of local and
international Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and local media, with a view
of writing some articles about this.
The idea behind this trip is that people in Europe
should understand why asylum seekers and refugees arrive
in Europe. The
way the majority of people get their
information is through journalists. We hope the
competition will connect Europe and
refugee-producing
countries such as those in East Africa.
Please Note: JRS will provide full travel
insurance for those applicants awarded visits to
Brussels and/or Kenya; however, JRS cannot be held
responsible for the security of any applicant during his
or her travel to or from, or stay in, either country.
All applicants travel at their own risk.
