DEVAS Project partners:
Caritas
Austria's mission is to accompany people in difficult
conditions, including refugees and migrants. In the field of
refugee protection, Caritas Austria offers social assistance and
housing, provides legal advice and is engaged in integration
programs.
JRS
Belgium is visiting asylum seekers and migrants in five
closed centres, offering support and legal counselling. As
part of its advocacy work, JRS is involved in different networks
to lobby against the detention of children.
The
Bulgarian Helsinki Committee
promotes respect for the
human rights of every individual by means of advocacy and
monitoring the civil rights situation in Hungary. The committee
reports on human rights violations with a special emphasis on
the rights of ethnic and religious minorities, refugees and
asylum-seekers.
Symfiliosi
is a non-profit, non-governmental, non-partisan organisation
based in Cyprus. Its mission is to actively engage Cypriot
society in a dialogue on reconciliation between the two larger
communities of Cyprus, Turkish-Cypriots and Greek-Cypriots, with
the aim of promoting a culture of reconciliation, peace,
democracy and cooperation. The organization also has a keen
interest in the integration of migrant communities.
The
Counselling Centre for Refugees is based in the Czech
Republic. Its primary mission is to provide legal, social and
psychological assistance to those applying for asylum in the
Czech Republic. They help asylum seekers to solve problems that
may occur during the asylum procedure and also regularly visit
asylum seekers at refugee facilities.
The
Estonian Refugee Council's main objective is to ensure that
persons coming to Estonia in need of international protection
are treated in accordance with international standards and
receive suitable protection.
Jesuiten
Fluchtlingsdienst
provides legal, social and pastoral support in detention centres
in Berlin, Eisenhüttenstadt and Munich (almost 2500 individuals
per year). JRS Germany is a member of the Berlin Commission.
The
Greek Council for Refugees
(GCR) is the only
Greek NGO which deals exclusively with refugees and asylum
seekers living in Greece. All its services and its projects aim
at the assistance to Refugees by means of providing counselling,
their referral to the appropriate services, the implementation
of special projects for the solution of their problems, such as
their adaptation to their social environment, and securing the
means for their livelihood.
The
Hungarian Helsinki Committee monitors the enforcement of
human rights, provides legal assistance to victims of human
rights abuses falling, and informs the public about rights
violations. The HHC’s main activities focus on protecting the
rights of asylum seekers and foreigners in need of protection,
and monitoring the human rights performance of law enforcement
agencies and the judicial system.
JRS
Ireland provides psychosocial support service to women
detainees. Through its project Community links, JRS offered an
education employment and cultural services. The organisation
also organises intercultural events, and training for teachers
on immigration and Human Rights.
Fondazione
Centro Astalli with the support of UNHCR, provides health
services and support to UN refugees, and support to victims of
torture. The office organises a yearly project in the schools to
promote better understanding of the migrants issue.
Caritas
Latvia's mission is to promote Caritas Network among
the Catholic population in Latvia, as well as to serve and
assist the socially deprived part of the population of Latvia,
which includes working with migrants and refugees. Since 2005
Caritas Latvia has joined the Equal Project “Step by Step”
initiated by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs in
Latvia.
Caritas
Lithuania serves people in need in the Archdiocese of
Vilnius. Amongst others, Caritas Lithuania organises measures
for Integration of refugees and migrants in the local community.
JRS
Malta visits detainees in three detention centres, offering
legal, social and pastoral services to detainees. With two
cultural mediators and a social psychologist, JRS communicates
with women of other culture to learn about their traumatic
experiences.
The
Dutch Refugee Council (Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland) is a
non-profit organization representing the rights and
interests of refugees and asylum seekers for over 25 years.
Working with 29 regional branches and over 8000 volunteers, the
Dutch Refugee Council provides practical support for refugees
during the asylum procedure, naturalization, and integration
into Dutch society.
Caritas
Poland runs three Centres of Support for Migrants and
Refugees located in Białystok, Lublin and Zgorzelec.
Support is offered for recognised refugees, asylum seekers,
persons under subsidiary forms of protection, migrants,
repatriants, and mixed marriages. They offer psychological
support, legal counseling, social support and social integration
activities.
JRS
Portugal provides a number of services for marginalised
migrants - temporary accommodation, health services,
psychological and cultural support. They work in the detention
centre in Oporto and raise public awareness to promote
integration of migrant communities.
JRS
Romania provides temporary accommodation, as well as legal,
psychological and medical assistance. They organise
cultural integration workshops and inter-religious events on a
regular basis. JRS volunteers visit the detention centre
in Bucharest once a week.
Caritas
Slovakia is a Catholic relief, development and social
service organisation. Its activities are focused on poverty and
social inequality, migration, asylum.
JRS
Slovenia, with around 20 volunteers, visits the open centre
in Ljubljana four times a week, where they organise different
activities, cultural events and workshops. They also visit once
a week the detention centre in Postojna.
The
Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid
(Comisión Española de
Ayuda al Refugiado) is a Spanish independent non
governmental organisation founded in 1979 in order to protect
the right of asylum. Its main goals are to provide legal and
social assistance to refugees and migrants and to advocate for
the interests of asylum seekers.
JRS
Sweden visitor groups (9 persons) provide support to
detainees, help them to communicate with their lawyers and
relatives, and mediate between the detainees, the police and the
Swedish migration board.
JRS
UK staff and volunteer work in coalition undertaking
lobbying and campaigning work on destitution and detention
issues. Around 10 volunteer visit between 40-60 detainees a
week, also liaising with health professionals and legal
advisors.
The
Institut für Ethik und Recht in
der Medizin (IERM) is a research platform at the
University of Vienna. IERM's research and teaching focus on
questions of health(care), justice and health in regards to
vulnerable groups. IERM actively supports and assists the
implementation of the DEVAS research methodology.
