DETENTION IN EUROPE

Both irregular immigrants and increasingly asylum applicants are detained in Europe, i.e. deprived of their right to freedom of movement. However, the general public in Europe, decision-makers and the media know hardly anything about these "new camps in Europe".

From its experience in accompanying detained migrants in European countries, in October 2004 JRS-Europe published a document on the administrative detention of asylum seekers and irregular immigrants in Europe. This document is constantly up-dated.
