ANDES Steering Committee meeting in Brussels

March 4, 2009 – Between March 3-4, a steering committee meeting for 'The Advocacy Network for Destitute persons (ANDES) project took place in Brussels. Representatives from six JRS Europe country offices (Portugal, UK, Romania, Italy, Ukraine, and Malta) were present, as well as a representative from CeiMigra in Spain.

The main objective of the meeting was to to plan the implementation of the ANDES project and discuss in detail the national events on destitution each organisation will organise in the coming months. These national events will each have a media, networking, and policy output focus.

Each partner presented their ideas of how they plan to implement the project. The main concern was as to how they would involve other organisations working in destitution, as well as policy makers, in their networks and the project. Other issues concerned the planning of strategies to involve the national partners with European representatives, this in a view to organising a two-day European conference in March 2011.

The objective of the ANDES project is to create a coalition of key actors on a national level in order to open up a broader debate at European level on the destitute migrants issue.

A website for the project is currently in production and will be available for www.jrseurope.org in the coming days.
