BRUSSELS, MARCH 14 - After five years in the making and
much deliberation, JRS in Europe has released a document
containing JRS' common position on detention.
The document, entitled 'Administrative Detention of
Asylum Seekers and Irregular Migrants in Europe: Common
Position of JRS in Europe', was given the green
light last Friday on the final day of the JRS Europe Regional
Coordination Meeting in Brussels. All JRS Europe country
directors were in universal accord that the document
properly presented JRS Europe's position on
administrative detention within a workable framework.
The legal integrity of the document was agreed on by a
number of JRS personnel, with the final draft of the
document compiled by JRS Europe's Policy and Advocacy
Officer, Mr Philip Amaral.
The document firmly establishes JRS' opposition to
administrative detention, and the conditions that must
be adhered to for people who are already in detention.
