JRS Europe on 'Europe Today' (BBC World Service)

Tuesday, April 28 - Following a report by the children's commissioner for England Sir Al Aynsley-Green, JRS Europe Policy and Advocacy Officer Philip Amaral spoke with the BBC Europe Today programme to discuss the report and the British government's stance on the detention of children.

The report stated that each year 2,000 children are held in detention centres in the UK for stays averaging 15 days.  The report made 42 recommendations that would truly make the detention of children a 'last resort'.

Sir Al Aynsley-Green warned in the report that children found Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre, in Bedfordshire, "like being in prison".
