Rosário Farmhouse, director of JRS Portugal, is awarded for her work on immigration

The first annual Fr Antonio Vieira prize was awarded to Rosário Farmhouse, anthropologist and director of JRS Portugal, for her “important work in support of human rights and the integration of immigrants in Portugal.”

The prize jury noted that, “the work done by Dr. Rosário Farmhouse for the integration of immigrants who come from different cultures and religions, indicates a spirit of cultural dialogue and inter-religiosity that mirrors the essential qualities of Fr António Vieira.”

The prize was created to mark the 400th anniversary of Fr António Vieira’s birth, and was designated by the Fr António Vieira Learning Centre, the Vieira Centre and the Fr António Vieira Institute, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The prize is meant to “distinguish a Portuguese citizen that engages in civil works to promote human rights, inter-cultural dialogue and inter-religiosity,” stated Manuel Braga da Cruz, a member of the prize jury.

The jury was presided by Jesuit Provincial Fr Nuno da Silva Gonçalves.
