The prize was created to mark the 400th anniversary of
Fr António Vieira’s birth, and was designated by the Fr
António Vieira Learning Centre, the Vieira Centre and
the Fr António Vieira Institute, with the support of the
Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
The prize is meant to “distinguish a Portuguese citizen
that engages in civil works to promote human rights,
inter-cultural dialogue and inter-religiosity,” stated
Manuel Braga da Cruz, a member of the prize jury.
The jury was presided by Jesuit Provincial Fr Nuno da
Silva Gonçalves.
