Chapter 7 - The 'Mulit-cultural society' chapter begins with a question for the students, asking them if the society they live in is Multi cultural and what exactly does it mean to be a multicultural society. There are many possible answers to this questions though the main elements of a multi-cultural society include the presence of a significant amount of people from different cultural backgrounds and different races, speaking different languages as their native tongue, sharing different religions.
Activity for Students
Students are asked to consider questions which relate to the multicultural society around them. Consideration of these questions could be combined with a visit to an ethnic neighborhood to look for evidence of the multicultural society in which they live, or a visit by an older member of the community which might be able to talk about how the area has changed and absorbed people from various backgrounds.
