Chapter 6 - Famous Refugees |
This chapter looks at famous refugees throughout history. The subject would be best adapted to a history class discussing German/Austrian/French/Polish diaspora during and after World War II.
The chapter will again reinforce the idea that displacement and the issue of refugees is not limited to the third world, but rather is something that is relevant on a European level, and something that is very much within living memory.
Activity 1 This activity seeks to further humanise refugees in the eyes. It asks students to consider how modern history may have been altered if some of these people had not been able to share their talents with the world.
For a more comprehensive list of famous refugees visit the RefugeeWeek UK website. Here you may find famous refugees more relevant to your own country and easier for your students to associate with.
