Pedro Arrupe Award 2008/2009 The deadline for this year's edition of the award is Friday, Arpil 24, 2009. Winners will be annouced on June 5, 2009 (this date is subject to change).
Winning groups will be invited to a prize ceremony in Brussels during the week of World Refugee Day 2009, with groups invited to travel to a JRS project in July 2009.
Previous winners of the Pedro Arrupe Award Pedro Arrupe Award 2006/2007 In the under-16 category, the winning group came from Slovakian school 'Gymnázium sv. Tomáša Akvinského' in Košice. The students, Zuzana Krnáčová, Miroslav Vlček, Daniela Richterová, Martina Slivková and Pavol Hučka, with the help of their teacher Angesa Kovalčíková, produced an engaging and informative PowerPoint presentation entitled "How we learnt about the refugees".
Winners in the under-19 category came from Polish school, "Gimnazjum i Liceum Jezuitów" in Gdynia. Their project entitled "Refugees" was a moving song, accompanied by photographs, depicting the lives of refugees. The students that won the award were Paulina Klonowska, Maciej Zydek, Maciej Glaza, Aleksander Nadolski and Michał Gronowski, and teacher Oliver Pasion.
Pedro Arrupe Award 2005 The first edition of the Pedro Arrupe Award, under-19 category, was won by a group of students from the Highschool of Mother Alexia in Bratislava, Slovakia. Their winning project was a documentary entitled, 'Almost Like One of Us'. Winners of the under-16 section came Claver College in Lleida, Spain and those from the under-12 came from Colégio São João de Brito in Lisbon. Their winnng projects were an educational board game and a sculpture which aimed to draw attention, expose and alert people to the situation of refugees.
